History
Aqua Creations has been using our signature ‘Tusser Silk’ to create our sculptural lampshades for nearly 30 years. We make our silk in a traditional weaver’s village in south India, using silkworms which live in the forest. The moths are allowed to emerge from their cocoons naturally before the empty shells are soaked in boiling water to soften the silk. ‘Tusser Silk’ has a rich texture and natural deep, golden color, and is incredibly strong. Finally, we dye the silk in our atelier using our signature range of colors, or digitally print it using our “L&LD Live & Let Dye” program.
Care Instructions
For optimal maintenance vacuum the silk frequently (make sure the vacuum cleaner is at low suction and use a clean applicator) and avoid direct sunlight or smoke. To remove stains use upholstery foam cleaner (as these vary from country to country, testing the product on a hidden spot first is recommended).
In case of heavier dirt use a moist sponge and make sure to move it along the crushed line of the silk. Please do not clean coated lamps with water. Note that any good quality silk fibers weaken when exposed to sun and natural dies may fade. Hence, avoid direct sunlight on the silk lights. Please note that as a natural material, we treat our silk against mold and fire.
Protective Silk Coating
Special commercial grade resin coating is available upon request. It is highly recommended for pieces intended for public installations or areas of humidity or smoke. This coating does not change the appearance of the silk, but strengthens its texture.
