Our Portersville (USA) based partner Gaskill Architecture talks about the architectural design decisions of including a Zooid Diamond into a tall octagon vestibule.
Sara M. Hardy, Lead Interior Designer and Project Manager at Gaskill Architecture was kind enough to answer our questions about the design process.
How did you get to know Aqua?
Fresh out of college, I worked for a small scale, yet high-end design company. I was fortunate enough this early in my career to travel to design shows with my company where I stumbled upon Aqua Creations. I was blown away by their attentiveness to detail and unique abstract designs and knew this was a company I would take with me further into my design career.
Tell us about the clients' needs, personal style and why you choose to work with us?
This project was nothing short of unique and the space we had was very specific. A tall octagon vestibule was designed by Gaskill Architecture when you enter the home. We knew we wanted a statement piece, but the shape played such an important role in this particular situation. The room was cladded with stone and wood where the Zooid Diamond pendant paired well with.
What were you looking for in terms of light?
This feature is a piece of art. When creating lighting focal points, I feel it is important to choose a design that conceals the lighting source. We illuminated the space with various other indirect methods. The Zooid Diamond pendant was not to light up the space, but to create a glow within its silk perimeters.
What was the main goal for the entire design process?
First impressions are key. The Zooid Diamond pendant is the first thing you see when entering the space and we want this to be an unforgettable moment. We wanted to really speak to the clients’ interests and personal style. This lighting statement is breathtaking and does just that!
What’s the effect of including Aqua Creations' in the space?
I believe that this Zooid Diamond reflects the client’s personality well. His interests dive deep into the diamond world and this piece caught my eye instantly. I knew this was it. It doesn’t just shed light. It illuminates the space in a way that it tells a story, not only about the client, but the home as well.
